Travel to Colombia

Passport

International visitors wishing to travel to Colombia must present a passport valid for at least six months. This document must contain free pages for its use. This requirement is very important even for visitors coming from countries where passports are not mandatory. Children are included in this group, if you are traveling within Colombia, please bring two photocopies of your passport and use the original only when exchanging foreign currency, as it is obligatory.

PID permit

All presenting authors and speakers at the 20th World Congress of the IEA need a PID permit to entry Colombia. This requirement includes all authors and speakers presenting in a plenary, panel, invited and contributed sessions, regardless of their nationality. Please fill out this form, so we will issue a letter requesting Migración Colombia the permit for your entry.

Visa

Citizens of some countries need a visa that must be processed at the Colombian embassies or consulates abroad. To check if your country requires a visa, click here. If the visa requirement applies to your country, please fill out this form to process the visa request letter issued by Universidad EAFIT.

Once the letter is issued, you can proceed with your individual online visa application. Here is a visa application guide for this process. Please start your visa request as soon as you can. The process could take up to three months.

If you require support with the immigration process, please do not hesitate to contact the local organizing committee at ieawc2023@eafit.edu.co

Andean community or Mercosur countries

If you are not presenting in the congress and you are a resident of member countries of the Andean Community (Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru) or Mercosur countries (Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Venezuela, Chile, Guyana, and Surinam) you do not require a PID permit or visa to enter Colombia. You may present your national ID card and complete the Andean immigration card at the time of entry.

Even if you come from countries where you do not need a visa, it is very likely that you will be asked for a return ticket when entering Colombia. The purpose is to verify that you will return before the 90 days allowed for tourists.

Currency

The Colombian peso is the legal currency in the country. It is possible to exchange euros, dollars and other currencies at authorized exchange houses located at international airports, hotels, and banks. Credit cards can be used in all major stores and some smaller ones. The most widely accepted are Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club.
