Welcome

Message of the IEA President

I am happy to be the new President of the IEA, starting in December 2023, after the conclusion of the World Congress in Medellin, which by all measures was very successful. More than one thousand economists gathered in Medellin to discuss important topics, such as innovation, inequality, global supply chains, economic methodology, development, and more. The fragility of the world’s trading system received special attention.

Although the IEA was founded in 1950, its mission is still important. It brings together economists from many regions of the world to advance research and policies concerning critical economic issues. Dani Rodrik, our past president, developed several important initiatives, which he will continue to lead in the years to come. I plan to add new initiatives during my tenure as president.

The IEA’s leadership has an excellent team: Eric Maskin (president-elect), Wendy Carlin (vice-president), Dani Rodrik (past president), Kaushik Basu (past past president), Omar Licandro (treasurer), and Lili Yan Ing (secretary general). Together with the president, these individuals form IEA’s Steering Committee. The members of the Executive Committee are separately listed on this website.
