Former World Bank chief economist to address the Conference

Former World Bank Chief Economist, former IEA President Kaushik Basu will be among the speakers of the opening plenary session of the 59th Itinerant Conference of Economists, sharing his thoughts on the post-pandemic world economic outlook. The conference organised by the Hungarian Economic Association will take place on 23-24 September 2021 in a hybrid format, with live streaming.

Kaushik Basu is a 69-year old economist and professor of the Cornell University from India, who was Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India from 2009 to 2012, and Chief Economist of the World Bank from 2012 to 2016. He served as President of the International Economic Association from 2017 till summer 2021 (recently replaced by Dani Rodrik). He was President of the Human Development and Capabilities Association founded by Nobel Prize winner Amartya Sen from 2010 to 2012. It is less widely known that he created the two-player version of sudoku, dui-doku.

Considering the pandemic related risks and uncertainties the Board of the Hungarian Economic Association (HEA) decided to organise this year’s conference on 23-24 September 2021 in a hybrid format with live streaming, similar to last year. The programme will be accessible to members of the HEA and the interested audience via live stream on YouTube and Facebook free of charge.
